Annotations Issue 9: A Peek into JPIA's Reading Weekend!
Dear readers,
Welcome to another issue of JPIA’s Annotations newsletter!
This week, we break from our usual programming to bring you a quick recap of JPIA’s 2022 Reading Weekend. Every year, Princeton hosts editors from APSIA schools across the country for a weekend to read, edit, debate, and ultimately select submissions for publication in the Journal. This year, Reading Weekend was held virtually from February 11th - February 13th, but that didn’t stop everyone from coming together for a fast-paced whirlwind of weekend reading and scoring.
This year, we had 102 article submissions, a total of 2,893,540 words, 634 score cards, and a team of 41 editors from 11 different schools working together to select the final list of submissions.
On Saturday, we were joined by Martha Coven, Lecturer and John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs & Co. Visiting Professor here at Princeton University, who walked us through an amazing workshop on Best Practices for Editing and Policy Communications.
Throughout the weekend, editors from different schools and institutions also had opportunities to meet with each other, both one-on-one and between different journals! Though it was a little more difficult to accomplish over Zoom, we hope to continue growing these budding relationships and share ideas for future events and projects.
While we’ve wrapped up Reading Weekend and have picked our final list of submissions, JPIA will be working with our authors and editors to finalize these pieces for official publication on May 17th, 2022. Stay tuned for the release of JPIA’s 33rd edition!
In the meantime, Annotations will continue to publish shorter commentary and op-ed style pieces on timely topics in domestic policy, international relations and development, and economic policy from Princeton University’s SPIA students and alumni. As always, we accept Annotations pitches year-round on a rolling basis - just send jpia@princeton.edu a brief email with your idea. You can also check out all of our published articles on the JPIA blog.
Till next time,
Michelle Zhang
